In the past week I’ve read three really good books. Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate, Isle of the Lost by Melissa De La Cruz, and Paper Wishes by Lois Sepahban. Ill have a paragraph for each book so read up!

Crenshaw– Crenshaw is about a fifth grader named Jackson who has an old soul and really likes facts. He and his family are in rough times as they struggle to pay for their house and food. Then, Jackson’s imaginary friend, a giant cat named Crenshaw, comes and adds even more to his plate. The story made me laugh and even get a little emotional, but overall it was an incredible story and I definitely recommend it!

Isle of the Lost– Isle of the Lost is about four descendants of some of the most evil Disney villains, Jafar, The Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and the scariest, Maleficent. Jay, Evie, Carlos and Mal weren’t always friends, but when one of Carlos’ inventions let magic into the Isle of the Lost, they have to work together to retrieve something that has been awakened from the magic. I wont tell what it is and if they find it, so your gonna have to read it yourself. I recommend this book if you don’t get scared easily. Its a really good book, but whats really cool is that this book is the prologue to one of Disney’s most recent movies, Descendants! (It came out on my birthday by the way!)

Paper Wishes- This one was definitely the saddest. Paper Wishes is about a group of villagers that are a mix of Chinese and American people that are forced to leave their home because of a war. Our main character, Manami, is a young girl who relates mostly to her grandfather and his dog, Yujiin.But when they are forced to leave Yujiin behind on their journey, Manami goes mute. She makes a great relationship with her new teacher, who encourages her to draw her feelings. Manami draws pictures of Yujiin and sends them out to the wind, hoping the dog will see them and find her. I’m gonna be honest, the first chapter made me cry, so if you hate sad stories, this book is not for you. I personally loved it though.
